Atkin Flyer

The Atkin Flyer is a 335 cubic inch class race boat hydroplane designed in 1930 by William Atkin. It was built in 2005 using plans published in Motorboat Magazine in the 1930s. The hull is mahogany and red cedar with an African mahogany plywood bottom. It is 20’ long with a 6’ beam and features steering and bronze deck hardware cast by the builder.

The 1970s Jaguar V12 engine has approximately 275 horse power, and was converted for marine use by Berg Boats.  The two 4-barrel intake manifolds and water-cooled marine exhaust manifolds were custom designed and cast by the builder. The Atkins Flyer won the 2005 Winner of Peoples Choice and Skippers Choice awards at the Coeur d’Alene Boat Show.
